The Lagos State Taskforce has seized 82 motorcycles during its recent operations in the Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile areas of the state.
PUNCH Metro reported that the Lagos State Government had banned the operation of commercial motorcycles on major highways.
The task force spokesperson, Raheem Gbadeyanka, in a statement on Monday, said the recent move was part of the agency’s commitments to ensuring Lagos roads remained safe and motorable.
He also stated that its chairman, Adetayo Akerele, emphasised that both riders and passengers found violating the ban would face prosecution.
“Passengers on okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” he quoted Akerele as sounding a warning to the violators.
He added that residents were urged to adhere to the regulations, which were in place to protect lives and property.
“All the 82 impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the state government through the court,” he added.
In August, the task force impounded 106 motorcycles during enforcement operations at the Iyana-School bus stop, First Gate bus stop by Igbo-Elerin, Iyana Iba-LASU Expressway, Megida bus stop and Ayobo Roundabout areas of the state.
Also in July, the agency clamped down and impounded over 105 motorcycles in a raid conducted on Iyana-Iba Road, Badagry Expressway, Igboelerin and Alakija.
